All of our counseling clients have a right to and will receive a Good Faith Estimate per federal law as of January 1, 2022. A Good Faith Estimate lists the fees for your scheduled mental health care services before you begin them. To learn more you can visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call HHS at (800) 368-1019.

  • New Moon Therapy is private-pay. Because the work is highly specialized and clinically focused, I have chosen to remain out-of-network to offer the depth and length of treatment families actually need. A superbill is available for child and individual adult clients who want to seek reimbursement from their insurance. I am not a paneled provider for any insurance companies and therefore do not bill directly to them.

Please note that most insurance companies require a diagnosis in order to reimburse for mental health services. It is possible that you will not meet criteria for a diagnosis, in which case I would be unable to provide you with a statement. It is also important to consider if you want a diagnosis to be a part of your, or your child’s, medical record.

  • Please notify us of a cancellation at least 48 hours before our scheduled session. Any no-show or late cancellation will be charged the full session fee.

  • We have two locations. At the Downtown office, the focus is primarily on adults, couples, and parents — including parents whose children may not need to come in at all. Play therapy for children is offered at the Henrico location on Sundays.

The Downtown office is located at 530 E. Main St., Suite 530, in the heart of the downtown financial district. Clients must pay for hourly street parking here.

The Henrico office is located at 8601 Mayland Dr., Suite B, in the West End area of Henrico. The office is in Parham Park, an office park near the intersections of Mayland Dr. and Parham Rd. The office is 1/8 mile away from Exit 181 of I-64.

  • This depends on your goals and the kinds of things you or your child are experiencing. We work closely with you to identify exactly what you want to accomplish during our time, to keep track of the progress we are making, to problem solve when there are setbacks and to anticipate how many sessions are needed to achieve your goals. Some people benefit from just a few sessions and others need regular therapy for a year or more.

  • I have specialized training in supporting a child’s strong relationships with all parents and caregivers, in helping the adults cooperate on the child’s behalf, and focusing parents on their child’s needs during a big family change. It is outside the scope of my practice to provide therapy to a child when any parent or guardian does not consent to, believe in, or participate in the development of their child’s goals. For those situations, I will refer you to therapists who have that expertise.

You can contact Vee through their website.

  • No. We work with clients of any sex, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, or belief. The practice's specialty is LGBTQ+ family wellness, but the inclusive, relational approach benefits many kinds of families — including cisgender and heterosexual clients seeking thoughtful, affirming care.

  • I offer both. The Downtown office is open Monday through Thursday for in-person sessions, and virtual sessions are available for Virginia residents. We'll discuss what format works best for your needs during your consultation call.

  • First sessions are about getting to know each other and clarifying what you're hoping to work on. For couples, the first session is together, followed by individual sessions, then a return to joint work.  For young children, the first session is with the parents only.  There's no pressure — the goal of the first meeting is to figure out if this is a good fit for both of us.

  • RPT-S is a credential granted by the Association for Play Therapy. It indicates advanced training in play therapy and the ability to supervise other clinicians working toward their own RPT credential. It's a meaningful distinction in clinical work with children and families.

  • As a therapist, I am ethically required to stay in my clinical lane and protect my clients' therapy records. While I can support you with the emotional dimension of any legal process, I don’t provide forensic evaluations, written recommendations for court, or expert testimony. If you need a forensic specialist, I can connect you with colleagues who may be able to help.

  • Henrico is dedicated to play therapy with children and tweens, and Sundays are reserved as the day I am fully focused on this work. The Downtown office serves adults, couples, and parents Monday through Thursday.

  • Yes. The practice welcomes children and tweens who are exploring identity, who haven't shared anything yet, who are just curious, or who are very clear. There's no expectation of arriving at any particular conclusion — the work is about helping kids feel safe, settled, and able to be themselves.

  • It depends on the child and the goals. Some sessions are child-only, some are joint, and many parents do meaningful work without their child in the room at all. I will collaborate with you to figure out what serves your family best.

  • I provide play and family therapy to children and tweens ages 2-12. I provide individual and family therapy to tweens and teens. I provide individual and couples therapy to adults of all ages.

  • The easiest first step is to reach out through the booking link or contact form on our website. We'll set up a brief consultation call to talk about what you're looking for and whether New Moon Therapy is the right fit.

Let’s talk about how I can help you.
